This is my dream: To live as my forefathers once did - in harmony with the land that sustains us. A project to investigate and innovate the creation of a low impact home with methods of living in a form of permaculture designed to sustain my family and improve biodiversity. To leave the land richer than before and in doing so enable others to do so.
Why do we eat?

Why do we eat what we do? Have you ever wondered that? I have.I wonder about a large number of things. How could one live in harmony with both law and land or why could a food forest not be planted and what would it cost?
A food forest (or woodland) is a planted or managed woodlands where the biodiversity has been increased and selected for the wild food properties. This is not the full scale farming as you or I know it but something new.
A woodland once settled with coppice, fungus, nut and berry would be a never ending and year round source of food. It would require managing just like any other but it would produce fuel and food all year long with highest production being the summer and autumn period.
What I would like to investigate are the approximate ratio of land to people supported. Along with that I would like to investigate the different trees, shrubs, insects, fungus and animal that would be native to my part of the world and how much can safely, legally or easily be harvested and used or eaten without disrupting the bio-system.
How can one go about living in a woods? If one does live in a woods issues of law, power and communications come in. My money comes from the fact I can work over the Internet so I must address more problems than the average dreamer.
These questions and others I am going to be looking at. Please contribute what you know and maybe answers can be found.
