This is my dream: To live as my forefathers once did - in harmony with the land that sustains us. A project to investigate and innovate the creation of a low impact home with methods of living in a form of permaculture designed to sustain my family and improve biodiversity. To leave the land richer than before and in doing so enable others to do so.

Bankless?

Posted 12/10/08 by Matt B in the Unspecified category

With banks teetering on the brink of collapse can one live without a bank account?

Is it possible to live without banks? This is the question that the BBC have been looking into (You can read their conclusion here). Without banks we have no access to direct debit and may have to pay a little more for some things.

Would you live without a bank?

Do you live without a bank?

Could we live without banks?

I would LOVE to live without banks - or money! I'm talking really idealistically here, but it would be lovely if we could all contribute to our community, and in turn be cared for by our community, without the need to keep score and pass around currency all the time. If we lived in a culture of trust and mutual aid, of course, this would be easier. Unfortunately I think the social structures and power hierarchies that we have set up right now make banks pretty essential.
