This is my dream: To live as my forefathers once did - in harmony with the land that sustains us. A project to investigate and innovate the creation of a low impact home with methods of living in a form of permaculture designed to sustain my family and improve biodiversity. To leave the land richer than before and in doing so enable others to do so.
A carnival of Green: Permaculture

I have decided that it may be fun to write a somewhat regular carnival of green issues in blogging at the moment. This first edition will focus on recent blog posts on the subject of permaculture. But next time - who knows.first up we have permakent.com with a permaculture concept video. It's a good way to start off today's topic and set the tone for the remaining posts.
The next item I found was kyrasbw talking about Edges and Social Permaculture. For those that don't know the meeting point between two things is quite important in the concept of permaculture. Interestingly on a social level this news item looks at a similar idea of exploring the space we use. Meanwhile transitionculture.org takes a look at the early days of Transition in Flanders.
Caffeevino of Caffe e Vino blog gives thoughts on permaculture on the personal scale and how this might intersect with one's faith. Also looking at the personal scale is Deborah Fries who talks about The failure of backyard permaculture and the joy of growing vegetables in an older first ring suburb while rose works talks about using permaculture in garden design.
Now for the last few few odd bits.
Permaculture & Regenerative Design News talks about "Plan C" (some US based thing I think).
A little while ago Dismantle Civilisation talked about "sustainability in a nutshell".

Political awareness must go hand in hand with ecological awareness. As long as we maintain the myth that all we need to do is get out or drop out of "the system" we are actually helping to make that self same system stronger.The system includes the government that you had a say in electing (even if you failed to vote) and we need to remember how to tell governemnts what the opinion of the people is. Ann Pettifor seems to be thinking likewise.
... there is no real climate change movement. There is no organised effort leading society towards a legislative framework that would urgently drive down greenhouse gas emissions across the board, and begin to sequester carbon dioxide.

Fellow business man and pro blogger Mark from 45n5.com is in the process of buying himself some land to live on. It seems that the USA has less restrictive rules regarding building houses in farm land where as the UK has massively restrictive laws some of which are good and keep the land safe and some are downright stupid.Congratulations to the 45n5.com chief editor.

So why am I feeling so "green" about this?
Simply because it is what I want to do too. I have been talking to a number of people and have drawn up a business plan to express my ideas. What I am proposing is the creation of an ecovillage in or near Kent (near London) in the UK. Ideally in the district of Thanet.
Almost everyone I tell about the idea gets really excited about it and I can see this project getting a lot of good moral support. I am also hoping to pick up some serious advice and help from builders, plumbers, designers, architects, vets and so forth. Some oft he articles of late (such as "Ecovillage Building", "Soap from Trees", "Planning...", "Ecovillages" and "An ecologically informed approach to education") have been sourced directly from the research and write up I have been doing for the business plan.
It is something I have been dreaming about for a long while and the time seems more than right to start doing something proactive to make the dream a reality.

Green Real Estate in Thanet, Kent

I have been looking recently at the issue of houses. Let's be honest - we all need somewhere to live and as such the real estate industry is likely to be with us for a good long time yet. While this is, no doubt, good for the economy it is not necessarily so good for the planet.There is nothing that encourages the supply of ecologically balanced homes.
Take, for example, a very quick study I did of the search results for real estate in Thanet. Thanet is located in Kent (UK) and was recently awarded more blue flags (an indication of high quality beaches) than any other part of Britain. One would, therefore, expect the industry to be quite lively there.
The truth, it seems, is a little stranger. I ran a generic search term "real estate thanet" through the thanet finder search engine and then through Google before running it through the Green Moral Search engine (Green Search: real estate thanet). The result was, on the whole, a bit limited but only in some ways.

While I don't want to get in to a situation where every Tom, Dick and Harry is begging for a link (been there, done that - was not so nice) this one time I do want to enable people to suggest sites.I would prefer it if you suggested other people's sites for inclusion as such a recomendation is worth infintly more than self promotion.
